I have been travelling to New Zealand to shoot for many years. I have been back every year and been past this particular location every time. I always wanted the conditions to be right but they never had been … until this particular year.
I was running a tour and saw this and everything started to fall into place for what I envisioned the shot to be. I stopped, got out and stood in the rain waiting until I got this.
The interesting thing about photography is you always get asked “was it easy to get this shot?” or “gee, you got lucky there!” – That’s crap. Photography to me is a game of patience with mother nature. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose. The trick is to keep turning up – a bit like life I guess.
