Why This Tour Is Different?
Why This Tour Is Unlike Any Other
Most photography tours stop where the road ends ours begins there. The journey to Mongolia’s Tsaatan reindeer herders takes us far beyond the reach of ordinary travel, deep into the northern Taiga where snow blankets the land and silence reigns. To reach these remote nomads, we travel by 4WD, the only way into this untouched wilderness. Few photographers ever make it this far north.
Here, among the forest and frost, we live alongside the Tsaatan families who have depended on their reindeer for survival for generations. Every portrait, every landscape, every flicker of golden light belongs entirely to you no crowds, no staged scenes, just raw, authentic life unfolding in one of the last truly wild places on Earth.
This isn’t a typical photography tour it’s a true expedition. Built on respect, trust, and patience, it offers not just incredible images but an experience that will stay with you forever.

Landscapes of Mongolia’s Northern Wilderness
The Frozen Heart of the Taiga
The northern wilderness of Mongolia is like nowhere else on Earth vast, silent, and otherworldly. The Taiga, a subarctic forest stretching toward Siberia, becomes a frozen masterpiece in winter. Here, rivers solidify into glass, frost sparkles on pine branches, and the early light paints the snow in hues of soft gold and icy blue.
This landscape rewards stillness and observation. Every direction reveals something new the steam of a reindeer’s breath in the morning cold, the endless sweep of untouched snow, or the sculpted shadows across mountain ridges. For landscape photographers, this is where patience meets magic.
In the Taiga, light behaves differently. The thin, crisp air gives unmatched clarity, turning even the simplest scene into a study of tone and texture. Whether you’re shooting wide panoramas, frozen details, or the quiet rhythm of herders moving through the snow, every frame tells a story of endurance and grace.
This is true wilderness remote, untamed, and alive with spirit. For those who venture here, the reward is more than photographs; it’s a connection to a world that still exists beyond time.

Frequently Asked Questions
What photography equipment should I bring?
Camera gear can vary since everyone shoots differently. This tour isn’t strictly landscape-focused due to the unique nature of photographing Reindeer Herders. A versatile mix of lenses is recommended, along with a tripod for capturing stunning sunrises and sunsets.
Is this tour suitable for all skill levels?
Most of our tours are fine for beginners, but if you are a little unsure we always recommend a one on one training sessions with Glenn Mckimmin prior to any tour.
How physically demanding is the trip?
The Mongolia Reindeer Herders Tour is not overly demanding physically. While there is bumpy driving each day, the walks are minimal and manageable for most participants. It’s an adventure focused more on photography than strenuous activities.
What is the accomodation and food like?
The accommodation and food during our time with the Reindeer Herders are fairly basic but authentic, providing an immersive experience into the local culture. Expect simple yet comfortable Teepee’s (traditional Mongolian tents) and hearty, rustic meals.
