Why This Tour Is Different?

Why This Tour Is Unlike Any Other

While many photography tours crowd around public Eagle Hunter festivals, competing with hundreds of lenses for the same shot — our experience is entirely private.

For 2027, our group has exclusive access to a custom Eagle Hunter Festival, created just for us and our cameras. Every portrait, every frame, every sunrise is yours alone no crowds, no chaos, just the quiet rhythm of nomadic life and the powerful connection between hunter and eagle.

This isn’t a staged show, it’s real life unfolding in front of you, guided by trust, respect, and years of friendships formed in Mongolia’s remote Altai Mountains.

Learn from Three Masters of Photography

One of the most rewarding parts of this journey is the opportunity to learn directly from three of Australia’s most respected photographers, Glenn McKimmin, David Oliver, and Clare Oliver.

Together, we bring decades of experience leading international photography tours and capturing the people, light, and landscapes of Mongolia. Having run this tour multiple times, we know the rhythms of the land, the families we visit, and the exact conditions that create truly remarkable images.

Glenn McKimmin shares his expertise in landscape and fine-art photography, helping you frame the vast Altai Mountains with clarity and emotion. David Oliver brings his world-renowned eye for portraiture, guiding you in capturing timeless moments of the Eagle Hunters and their families. Clare Oliver completes the team with her intuitive, story-driven approach, focusing on the human connection that makes every image come alive.

With three mentors working closely alongside a small group, you’ll gain hands-on guidance, creative feedback, and professional insight every step of the way. This is not just a photography tour, it’s a masterclass in vision, technique, and storytelling set against one of the most extraordinary backdrops on Earth.

Landscapes of the Altai — A Photographer’s Dream

A Landscape Carved by Time and Light

In Mongolia’s far west, the Altai Mountains rise like ancient sentinels, a place where time, wind, and light have sculpted a landscape of pure wild beauty. Here, nature still reigns untouched: vast valleys stretch to the horizon, frozen rivers glisten under pale sunlight, and snow-capped peaks catch the fire of dawn and dusk.

For photographers, the Altai offers endless creative potential. Each day reveals new textures sweeping steppe plains, dramatic cliffs, glowing tundra, and the mirrored stillness of hidden lakes. The colours shift with every hour, the silence feels infinite, and the scale humbles even the most seasoned traveller.

This is a place to slow down, breathe, and create. Every frame tells a story of isolation, endurance, and beauty, a raw connection between earth, sky, and light that only the Altai can deliver.

Frequently Asked Questions

What photography equipment should I bring?

Camera gear can vary since everyone shoots differently. This tour isn’t strictly landscape-focused due to the unique nature of photographing eagle hunters. A versatile mix of lenses is recommended, along with a tripod for capturing stunning sunrises and sunsets.

Is this tour suitable for all skill levels?

Most of our tours are fine for beginners, but if you are a little unsure we always recommend a one on one training sessions with Glenn Mckimmin prior to any tour.

How physically demanding is the trip?

The Mongolia Eagle Hunters Tour is not overly demanding physically. While there is bumpy driving each day, the walks are minimal and manageable for most participants. It’s an adventure focused more on photography than strenuous activities.

What is the accomodation and food like?

The accommodation and food during our time with the eagle hunters are fairly basic but authentic, providing an immersive experience into the local culture. Expect simple yet comfortable gers (traditional Mongolian tents) and hearty, rustic meals. This experience is designed to bring you closer to the way of life of the eagle hunters, offering a rare and rewarding opportunity to live like them, even if just for a short time. It’s all part of the adventure!
